Ilec SB-9 Audiovariometer
The small SB-9 audio-variometer has been built as a vario with small size (in
comparison to the 5 ¼ inch air norm) in order to save space. Current consumption is so
low that the small battery, mounted externally on its back, can supply the instrument with
current for up to 10 hours.
This vario can also serve as an emergency variometer, in case the onboard line should
fail to supply power. In normal operation it is supplied by the normal sailplane battery.
Unlike a mechanical emergency vario, the SB-9 provides an audio - even in the unexpected
situation of a failure of the normal sailplane battery.
For the emergency battery to be always ready for service, it is continually recharged
from the normal sailplane power.
Key Benefits
- Normal Operation from 12 V normal sailplane power, should this fail, it can be switched
to its own emergency battery.
- Runs for about 10 hours in the emergency mode, at low volume.
- After consumption of about half the emergency batteries capacity, the audio generator is
switched off automatically (depending on volume: 1 to 4 hours running) to safeguard
another 5 hours of - quiet - operation
- When running from the normal sailplane power, the SB-9 offers 2 different types of
response, the fast 1s and the 3s response. When running on its own battery, the 3s
response is used.
- The built-in emergency battery is continually charged from the onboard supply line, and
is therefore always full.
- Fits in 57 mm (2 ¼ inch) standard cut-out; depth behind panel is 115 mm, weight is 500
grams.
- Mounting of the SB-9 flask behind the instrument panel is very easy thanks to its tiny
size (60 x 60 x 78 mm)
